Is DHCP automatically enabled by default? If so, it would be great, as I would just need to run an IP scan to discover the DRAC card and connect to it then using the default username and password (root / calvin).Īlso, reading through the Dell iDRAC 7 manual to figure out the defaults (which doesn't really answer my questions), it says it needs to be accessed through the server's BIOS/UEFI rather than the usual Ctrl+E shortcut that I used on previous system. My actual question is about what are the defaults of the iDRAC7 cards regarding IPv4 settings. I am confident he can do that, since it is just a matter of plugging in a few cables: however, I am not sure he would be that confortable navigating through BIOS screens. I would like to ask one of the more tech-savvy users at this office to plug it in for me.

The server (a PowerEdge T320) has a DRAC 7 enterprise, ordered at the same time as the system. We have this exact setup working perfectly on the Dell R900 model using the shared with failover on NIC1 + NIC2.My company has purchased a server in one of our foreign offices.Īs this office is very far away, management has asked me to set it up remotely, to save on travel costs. A port-channel is setup on top of these ports - also configured as a trunk. The switch ports are all setup as trunks. It seems the ESXi NIC drive is grabbing the NIC exclusively and locking out the iDRAC. Guest and host network working fine as does the iDRAC 6 network but I can't get the iDrac to work correctly at the same time as the host+guests. VMs are running on various VLANs including 300. This works fine but when I pull the iDRAC cable to force a failover to one of the onboard NICs the iDRAC stops working. They also said I could use the shared with failover LOM2 or shared with failover all LOM as long as I had a cable in the iDRAC port. With this setup the iDRAC stops working as soon as ESXi boots. They told me I could make this work using a single shared cabled in NIC1 using the shared option. I discussed it with Dell support but they gave me completely bad info. As soon as the ESXi NIC driver loads the iDRAC6 stops responding. On the R710 we tried the various shared options (shared, shared with failover LOM2, and shared with failover all LOM) and they work fine until we boot into ESXi. Has anybody else tried to run an iDRAC 6 using a LAN cable shared with the ESXi data?
